EXCERPTS FROM TRIPADVISOR.CO.UK

My daughter and I stayed at Lakenham for 10 days during the 2005 Gilbert & Sullivan Festival. We were delighted: our room was spacious and well lit and was kept spotlessly clean. The attached bathroom was large with a good sized glass-enclosed shower. The Guest House itself is well located directly across from Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens and a few minutes walk from the Opera House and shopping district. The breakfast room and hall are filled with Victorian Porcelain, paintings and photos. Kathryn the Owner/Manager, was invariably friendly, cheerful and accommodating to special requests from guests. We would definitely choose Lakenham again.

Bob rented a room at Lakenham for 2 years from 1971 to 1972 from Ruth Harburn, the former owner. In 2006 he returned.

During September 2006, my wife and I visited Buxton on a holiday from Canada and on arrival, as we were en-route to Derby to visit relatives, we were able to stay for one night in the room next to my old one. Then, wonder of wonders, on the last night before flying back to Toronto from Manchester, we were able to stay in my old room itself! As we entered the house on that first day, it had clearly retained its character and charm, it seemed little changed from my days there 35 years ago despite the new carpets and paint and the rearranging of pictures on the walls.

Kathryn, our Hostess was very hospitable and kind. She gave us a wonderful breakfast and was generous with food and snacks. She told us her memories of Mrs Harburn and was very interested in my experiences at the time I had lived there. On the last day we were in such a rush that we forgot our camera. Kathryn forwarded it to us without delay and we were able to salvage out photos of the last part of our wonderful holiday – in Lakenham.
